The Three Waters National Transition Unit have released the Proposed Staff Transition Guidelines, for the transition of existing three waters staff into the Water Services Entities.

The Three Waters National Transition Unit have released the Proposed Staff Transition Guidelines for feedback.

The Staff Transition Guidelines are designed to offer secure work and pathways into the new system to today’s three waters staff.

The transition into the Water Services Entities starts with retaining, supporting and developing current staff who work in the sector, before finding future jobs in their water services entity. Different people will be able to follow different pathways to a role, depending on their level of seniority and how much of their time is currently spent on three waters-related work.

The Three Waters reforms create an opportunity for Aotearoa New Zealand to uplift our water sector, by strengthening our workforce and ensuring that we have the right people with the right skills in the right places.

The workforce will ensure that the new Water Services Entities will provide quality water services for our people, to achieve better health, environmental and community outcomes.

“We know that for the reforms to be successful we will not only have to retain talent and capability in place, but we will have to grow it. That’s why we are focused on retaining and developing existing staff during the transition and building into our planning, a pathway for water professionals to grow in their careers," says Minister for Local Government Nanaia Mahuta.
